Insomnia; a poem – 40 days of blogs #36

White ceiling, staring up.

Mind is buzzing, eyes won’t shut.

Hours tick by, one by one.

Starting to see the rising sun.

Toss and turn, too cold too hot.

Feeling like I’m falling, even though I’m not.

Breathing quickens, heart’s in a race.

Eyes snap open, to a familiar space.

I take a breath, everything is okay.

I just wish sleep would come my way.

Music is playing, song after song.

I drift off but not for long.

I’ve come to accept that sleep won’t come tonight.

Perhaps tomorrow though, it might.
